Medicare Advantage Insurance

During the year 2006, Congress added Medicare Advantage Plans to give Medicare beneficiaries more choices about how they receive their health care.  Medicare Advantage plans are all offered by private companies that have been approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).  Not all plans are availble in every county of Maine.

To encourage competition, Medicare allows the private companies flexibility in setting the terms of their plan with the understanding that coverage will be the same as original Medicare, Part A and Part B, or better. You'll find a variation in benefits among plans as you explore the different plans offered by companies in your county in Maine,.

You may find it a difficult decision when you become eligible to join Medicare whether or not you want Original Medicare(Part A and B) only, or with a medicare supplement plan or a Medicare Advantage(Part C) Plan.  Medicare Advantage must cover the same benefits as original Medicare or better, but they work differently than original Medicare. Most Medicare Avantage plans include Part D (prescription Drug coverage) within the plan, but some may not.  Medicare Advantage plans work differently than Medicare Supplement plans and do not include Part D coverage.  It may seem over whelming at first to understand everything you need to know to make an informed decision.  We are here to help you through it and explain it in simple terms.

Remember that the decision you make depends on your personal health needs, make sure you understand the type of Medicare insurance coverge you choose..
